Superior Trolling Motors
Superior Trolling Motors Experiences International Business with Website Services Randall and Karen Brown purchased Superior Trolling Motors in May 2004. They are located in Lafayette and currently employ 3 people. The business was originally started in 1983 and their services include trolling motor repair and installation, and boat repair and installation.
After the Browns purchased the business, they were looking for ways to market their services. They were very interested in doing a website to get a presence on the Internet. MEPOL Project Director Merlin Bodin began by helping Superior Trolling Motors obtain some funding from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development's Small and Emerging Business Development (SEBD) program. Once the company was approved, Merlin worked with them to obtain the domain name www.superiortrolling.com and built a basic website featuring the company's products and services. MEPOL is also hosting the company's website and submitting the keywords from their website to major search engines on a weekly basis to help increase market exposure.
Through the SEBD program, the company was able to save $1,125 on the website service and development costs. They have since realized approximately $15,000 in retail sales generated as a result of the Internet and their website. One retail sale was shipped to Australia in March 2005. The customer got excited over the product they received, the Kipawa Prop, which is an after market trolling motor propeller. He tested the prop on 24 different boats and contacted Kipawa Propellers directly. That customer is a large marine dealer in Australia and requested the whole continent of Australia as his territory for selling Kipawa Propellers. So far, he has placed over $5,000 in props orders where Superior Trolling Motors in Lafayette gets a residual off of every prop he orders directly from Kipawa Propellers. Karen Brown, vice president of Superior Trolling Motors, said the supplier has assured them that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Kipawa Propellers has a link to their website, which drives approximately 20-30 hits to the Superior Trolling Motors website per month. "Even though our website is basic with not too many bells and whistles, we have had so many compliments on our website," Karen Brown said. "Mr. Merlin Bodin has been very accommodating, and has expertly guided us with his knowledge and expertise." Send this Page to a Friend!
