Acme Machine & Welding Grows Through Internet Marketing

Acme Machine & Welding, LLC was founded in 1985 in Covington, Louisiana and manufactures machined parts for cranes, winches, jacking systems, gear boxes and various engineered products. The industries they serve range from oilfield to agriculture to space exploration. They employ 23 people and sell their products throughout the U.S.
A few years ago, the company was looking for ways to increase visibility among their target markets. Before working with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Louisiana (MEPOL), Acme Machine & Welding couldn’t get their name out to potential customers without sending a salesman. They did not have any internet sales, and wanted to increase awareness of their services among their target markets through their website, www.acmecnc.com.
Since 2001, MEPOL Project Director Merlin Bodin has helped Acme Machine and Welding obtain a strong Internet presence and claim valuable “online real estate” through regular search engine submissions. These services include submitting the company’s name, a description of the company, its website and keywords to the major U.S. and international search engines. The service is done weekly, and the cost is $250 a year. Acme Machine & Welding has since picked up several customers based on their website. They use it as a sales tool. Due to the additional customers, Acme Machine & Welding had to hire new employees to pick up work flow.
     Results the company has experienced include:

• A sales increase of $200,000
• Addition of 15 employees
• New investment in their plant equal to $1.5 million, including expanding services to include fabrication and pumps.
• Achieved more diversity in their customer field.

“I find that because of MEPOL, we have been able to reach a customer base that we were not able to reach before,” said Tabetha A. Camaille, who does production control and Internet relations for Acme Machine & Welding. “I feel comfortable working with the staff at MEPOL. The professionalism and being able to troubleshoot has saved us time and money. We are currently working with MEPOL to better outfit our company with efficiency.”

Hebert Honored with National MEP Award
The Grand Ballroom of the Marriott World Center in Orlando was the stage for Cecile Hebert, marketing coordinator for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Louisiana (MEPOL), to garner a national award at the MEP National Conference, held April 26-30, 2008.

Hebert took home the Newcomer of the Year Award out of a pool of 16 nominees from across the United States. This is the second year in a row a MEPOL employee has received this prestigious award.
